Christian Liberty
General Description: This group is studying the nature of Christian liberty. For while we are made in God's image (Genesis 1:26-27) and a foundational aspect of God's character is that He is at liberty, free, and under no compulsion (Isaiah 46:9-10), we nevertheless find ourselves in this world as slaves and captives, oppressed and in bondage to sin, fear, desires, lawlessness, bitterness, and death(John 8:34) and under compulsion to law, guilt, religion, alienation, and men (Romans 7:5). But Jesus purchased our liberty on the cross and freed us once and for all (John 8:36, 1 Corinthians 6:19-20). The questions then have to do with the following: How do we live as free men and women? What are we to do with our liberty? Are we still captive to anyone or anything and why? Are we free and yet tyrants of others? Essentially, do we understand what Jesus meant when he said, "If the Son makes you free, you are free indeed"? This group is open to everyone and is currently made up of singles and couples, with and without children, of all ages, backgrounds, and professions. Many of those who attend have also taken part in Creekside's prison ministry. We meet for prayer, fellowship, study, and worship at 7:00 p.m. We also meet beforehand at 6:00 p.m. for a potluck dinner.
